The Stream Theory
First and foremost, the disclaimer: This is a working theory. One with some evidence, but no proof. One with predictability but nothing solid to point at. Gravity is similarly a theory in that we can model it and predict it but the underlying cause is anybody’s guess. This theory can perhaps add such a guess while itself remaining a theory with measurable outcomes.
The theory, as best I am understanding it so far, states that reality is much like our own minds. If we think of an image, the image appears. So it is with our physical world. The mind (some might call God) thinks of Earth and Earth appears. But, much like our minds, this higher consciousness is made of many pieces of smaller consciousness. This is perhaps not well known among people, but this is indeed true of our own minds. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a budding field in psychology exploring this further, but split-brain studies have shown that we absolutely have at least two consciousnesses that make us up. IFS, and my internal explorations of my own mind, have me believe there are many more than two. So we can use that as a model to understand the larger universe.
The theory continues that we, ourselves, are part of this God-consciousness. This has interesting implications that we can consider through analyzing our own minds. What is unique about us, the humans reading this in the physical world, is that we have become incarnated with a physical body—one of the imaginings of the consciousness. Part of that experience is that we no longer remember that we are a piece of consciousness and we instead believe we are these body entities. Despite the bodies, however, we are indeed still a piece of the whole. People have been calling that a spirit or soul for some time.
So the “natural” state of reality is a blank mind with streams of consciousness (aka spirits) simply existing and thinking in no particular space. Their only experience is emotional and they don’t have much to think about without anything actually existing. Their emotional states can be understood as vibrations and streams. These are from physical-world perspectives, but there are similarities. Some emotional states—or vibrations—can resonate. Some can have dissonance. Some cancel each other out, and some make others stronger. In our own minds, we can feel sad and not know why. We can get stuck in depression. We can have automatic negative thoughts. These little pieces make up our whole but we don’t always know how or why.
What is interesting per this theory, is that we didn’t lose our ability to affect the collective “dream” so to say. The collective creates this reality through thought and it’s almost like a voting system. If the majority of people imagine an elephant in the room, the room will possess an elephant. But, not having a deep-seated realization of this power, we are bound by some threshold of believability. Even with 100 people in a room “trying” to believe an elephant into existence, it likely just won’t happen because those 100 people can’t truly believe it on a whim. They’re too glued to what we perceive as reality. Such faith would have to start small and grow, but it can become unlimited in what can change. This also explains why religions are filled with miracles but that we rarely hear of any today. It was easier to believe back then.
This theory of being able to modify our reality is actually a known fact—only the extent is unknown. Science already tells us of the placebo, nocebo, Pygmalion, golem, and experimenter expectancy effects. It also knows quantum probabilities through wave-function collapse that also lends credence to this model. There is also ongoing research called the global consciousness project which has preliminary data indicating that our emotional states and intentions can change true random number generation at a quantum level. The generators begin to align at times the world aligns—often with catastrophic events. The double-hurricane heading our way is a predictable input to see alignment. If it is catastrophic, the US will feel it and the numbers will align more than true random. A bit of a dark test, but something predictable and measurable none the less.
None of this proves our ability to modify our reality at a macro scale, but they lend some interesting evidence. Certainly nothing disproves this model. So what’s left is a question of, “What if?” And that question is where we begin our journey. So… What if?
Religions abound with a very similar concept and science is fully aware of psychological affects on reality to a small but statistically significant degree. So what if it truly is this way? And that is the exploration I wish to have. The power to influence would be based on these emotional vibes and I think perhaps we’ve been given hints to this for centuries. Even now, we see alignment on negative fronts and we create the very things we fear. We must learn to align with the appropriate “vibration” (for lack of a better word) and align with many other such people, and we can then modify the world around us. The worst case scenario if we pursue this and it is not true, is that we take the good and common advice found to be most beneficial to our health and live by it only to improve our own lives rather than fundamentally modify the world. Not a bad drawback. Even then, however, changing ourselves can only have a positive impact on the world.
There is no loss in pursuing this endeavor, and it has already supported me in many ways. I look forward to finding curious people and sharing such experiences and seeing if there just might be something more to this than theory. There is so much more to talk about, but this is the beginning. If you are curious to ask questions or know more, feel free to reach out from the Home page by filling out the contact form.
